They've jumped in on several cases and have fought bills that could stand between library patrons and access to information.NapsterWhat it is: The record industry sued Napster in 1999, saying its free file-swapping service violates copyrights.Where librarians stand: Librarians sided with Napster, saying a ruling to shut down the service would prevent the free flow of all types of information, not just music.Status: Napster is struggling after a federal court ordered it to block copyrighted music.DeCSSWhat it is: The movie industry sued online hacker magazine 2600 for posting and linking to DeCSS code that can be used to crack DVD security, saying it violates copyrights.Where librarians stand: Librarians filed a brief in favor of 2600, saying a judge's order preventing it from linking to computer code restricts free speech.Status: 2600 has appealed a judge's order prohibiting linking.Livermore LibraryWhat it is: A mother sued a library in Livermore, Calif., demanding filters after her son downloaded reams of porn from its computers.Where librarians stand: The library stood its ground, refusing to filter.Status: The library won at the trial and appellate court levels and does not have to filter.Filtering billWhat it is: Passed in December, the Children's Internet Protection Act requires schools and libraries receiving federal funds to filter material that may be inappropriate for children.Where librarians stand: The American Library Association sued the U.S. government, arguing that the act restricts free speech by preventing adults from viewing content that's legal for them to see.Status: A trial is scheduled for early next year.Tasini v. The New York TimesWhat it is: A group of freelancers, led by writer Jonathan Tasini, sued The New York Times and other publications, demanding extra pay for copies of print articles stored in digital databases.Where librarians stand: Libraries weighed in on behalf of freelancers looking for back pay for digital copies of their work.Status: The Supreme Court ruled in June that the publications must pay freelancers extra to present their work online. The publications responded by pulling old freelance pieces from their databases.whimsical art hand painted posters watercolor prints limited edition garden sculptures giclee apron Stewart Moskowitz Stu Wooket a herd of laughter Terry Willis print poster funny colorful Bedard Michael children kid cows grandchild kids child animals creative whimsy artistic serigraph gallery t shirt sillyRaging Bull27 in. x 40 in.Buy Raging BullDaily Warm-up Exercises For Jazz Ensemble Volume Ii BassLaura LinneyVintage Little Black Sambo Unframed Color Print TigerC 1.21 1 20h 06mMobb Deep Lyrics, Survival Of The Fittest lyrics, Mobb Deep, lyrics, Mobb Deep song lyrics, Mobb Deep LyricsShare the Vision: Mini Poster Print 7.99Kate O`Marab tsa question, 10/10/04, by gem.Re: b tsa question, 10/10/04, by BTSA Support Provider .Re: b tsa question, 10/10/04, by Turn in the same one.
