The Art of Michael Bedard

The author and illustrator of Sitting Ducks is Michael Bedard, who became famous for his poster of the same name in the late 1970s. In the poster, three ducks are sitting in deck chairs and sipping cool drinks. Two of the ducks seem pretty happy. One duck, however, is looking with concern over his shoulder. The wall there has two holes in it. There is little doubt that at least the one duck sees these as bullet holes. Malkiel says professionals are no better at selecting shares than blindfolded monkeys. If, like me, you reckon private investors can beat simian stockpickers you should have answers to the many awkward questions he poses. You also get an exposition of investment analysis and financially planning that is simply the best there is, for the intelligent layman. Malkiel does not explain why the monkeys need to be blindfolded though, or whether sighted ones would beat the pros.
